Invisalign is a cosmetic dental service that uses clear aligners to straighten teeth over time. If you’re interested in straightening your smile with Invisalign but are unsure if it’s right for your specific needs or if you are a candidate for treatment, we’re here to help.
We provide comfortable Invisalign treatment for patients with crooked and misaligned teeth in Worcester, MA.
Am I An Invisalign Candidate?
There are multiple signs that Invisalign could be the right orthodontic treatment for your needs:
You Have Mild to Moderate Orthodontic Problems
Invisalign is best for patients with straightforward orthodontic needs, including small gaps between teeth and crooked teeth. Patients with mild overbites, underbites, or crossbites can be great candidates for Invisalign. We will recommend traditional metal or ceramic braces for patients who have overcrowding or more severe orthodontic problems, as they will need longer treatment time.
You’re In Good Oral Health
If you brush and floss, visit the dentist regularly, and do not have any major oral health problems, you’re a good candidate for Invisalign treatment. Even if a dental problem emerges, we can provide effective oral health treatments in our office.
We can address dental problems like gingivitis, gum disease, and dental infections before Invisalign treatment. Once you’re healthy, you can begin the Invisalign process.
You Do Not Have TMD
Temporomandibular joint disorders (TMD) can create problems for patients interested in orthodontic care. TMJ disorders are bite problems often caused by damage to the TMJ, or joints that connect the jaw bone to the skull.
Many patients with TMJ disorders experience bruxism, or teeth clenching and grinding, because of an imbalanced bite or damaged TMJ. Bruxism can occur unconsciously at night or during the day when you’re under stress.
You may qualify for Invisalign if you have mild TMD and do not experience teeth clenching and grinding. Otherwise, we will not recommend Invisalign because you can damage or break your aligners with continual pressure from bruxism.
You’re Responsible
Invisalign requires a bit more care than traditional braces because the aligners are removable. Cleaning and keeping track of aligners is a part of the Invisalign process, which is why Invisalign is best for adults. However, we also offer Invisalign treatment for teens, with more replacement aligners to cover any damaged or lost aligners.
Invisalign aligners for teens also come with blue indicators that fade as patients wear their aligners to ensure that they are wearing them for the correct amount of time each day. We will not recommend Invisalign for children because adult teeth are required for Invisalign treatment, but we will recommend braces for children with orthodontic problems.
