Pediatric Dental Cleaning in Worcester, MA

Our Pediatric Dental Services in Worcester, MA

Dental care for children offers many benefits. As your child’s dental office, we teach kids how to care for their teeth, like brushing and flossing properly. Starting these habits young helps kids keep their teeth healthy for life.

We also track a child’s teeth and jaw development. This allows us to catch issues, like crooked teeth or bite problems, early on. Regular visits help children get used to the dental office. This makes them less likely to fear the dentist as they grow older.

Our extensive pediatric dental services improve the health of your child’s teeth, gums, and bite:

Dental Cleanings

Routine dental cleanings are an essential part of children’s dental care. During dental cleanings, we remove bacterial buildup, brush the teeth, floss between teeth, and polish the teeth. We may also recommend fluoride or dental sealants after cleaning the teeth and gums.

Dental Fillings

Our dental fillings for children can treat cavities or holes and pits in teeth caused by decay. After we clean and disinfect a cavity, we fill it with a tooth-colored material that blends in with the smile.

Dental Sealants

We typically recommend dental sealants for children between 6 and 12, which is when their molars emerge. We apply dental sealants to the molars to prevent tooth decay and cavities. Dental sealants create a protective barrier on the chewing surfaces of the teeth.

Emergency Dentistry

Contact our dental office if your child has a dental emergency. Common pediatric dental emergencies include toothaches, broken teeth, knocked-out teeth, or injuries to the mouth’s soft tissue. When we provide prompt dental care for sudden dental issues, we can prevent future problems.

Laser Dentistry

Dental lasers are modern alternatives to surgical tools that can precisely target and treat soft tissue. NightLase® and BabyLase treat sleep apnea and tongue and lip tie, respectively. Both treatments use dental lasers to help young patients sleep, speak properly, and eat easily.

Dental lasers are safe and comfortable alternatives to traditional surgical instruments that do not make noise or cause pain. Lasers use heat and light to cut soft tissues in the mouth gently. At Children’s Dental Specialties, we offer laser dentistry treatments to pediatric patients in Worcester, MA.

Mouthguards

We provide custom mouthguards for patients who play contact sports or who experience nightly teeth clenching and grinding. Sports mouthguards can protect teeth and braces from injuries or damage, while nightguards prevent further wear to the tooth enamel from bruxism.

Pediatric Root Canal

A pediatric root canal, or a pulpotomy, removes infected tissue from the crown or top of the tooth. Root canals for children leave the tooth root intact and preserve the tooth while addressing tooth decay. We numb the tooth before treatment for a comfortable root canal.

Sedation Dentistry

Our anesthesiologist, Dr. Patrick McCarty, provides general anesthetic and nitrous oxide to ensure children receive pain-free care. Sedation dentistry is a safe treatment method for patients who are anxious, have special needs, or need lengthy dental care.

Sleep Appliances

We can create pediatric sleep appliances for children with obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Oral appliances keep the airway open and prevent pauses in breathing during sleep. Reducing sleep apnea symptoms with an appliance can also prevent problems later on, like high blood pressure and cognitive problems.

Tooth Extraction

Sometimes, we must remove teeth for several reasons: impacted wisdom teeth, tooth decay, overcrowded teeth, or loose baby teeth. Dr. McCarty ensures patient comfort during tooth extraction treatment. He will numb the tooth before removal so your child does not feel pain.

Tongue and Lip Tie

This problem occurs when the thin pieces of skin under the tongue or lip (the frenula) are shorter or tighter than usual. Tongue and lip tie can hinder movement. In children, it may interfere with speech development and, later, dental hygiene. We can gently cut the band of tissue that restricts the lip or tongue in one quick and comfortable treatment.

Our Dental Technology

Modern technology helps our office detect dental issues early and recommend the best treatment options. At Children’s Dental Specialties, we use the latest dental technology to diagnose and treat our patients:

  • Digital X-rays: Compared to traditional dental X-rays, digital X-rays are safer and simpler to use. With digital X-rays, we can see parts of the smile that we cannot see during a visual examination. They help us keep track of your child’s oral development as they lose baby teeth and their new teeth grow.
  • CBCT: Cone-beam computed tomography uses cone-shaped X-rays to take high-quality images of the smile. CBCT scanners can take hundreds of images of the teeth, gums, nerves, and other areas of the mouth. These images help us diagnose and treat emerging dental issues.
  • Intraoral Scanning: We use a handheld scanner to take dental impressions. Intraoral scans are a great alternative to messy putty impressions. In the past, putty impressions used bad-tasting materials and took time for dentists to get an accurate dental mold. Intraoral scans take 5 minutes or less, which makes them a great option for impatient kids.
